A Curtain Too Quiet
It is a kilometre and a half from her mother's gate to the police station, and Jenny sits in the car park unable to get out of the car. She rings her husband and mouths his voicemail along with him, word for word. Then she puts her body back together at the tinted glass, piece by piece, the way she has done it for four hundred girls in the wings — and the doors open before she is ready.
